Gas hose colors: what they mean and what to look out for

кольори газових шлангівWhen choosing a gas hose for a stove, boiler or other equipment, most people first of all pay attention to the length, type of connection and material. But the color of the hose is no less important – because it not only affects the appearance, but also performs an informative function.

The color marking of gas hoses is used to quickly identify their purpose, as well as to increase safety. In most cases, the color indicates what medium the product is intended for – gas, water or other substances. This helps to avoid errors during installation.

Main colors of gas hoses

The following colors are most often used for natural gas:

  1. Yellow gas hose.
    • The most common color for flexible gas lines.
    • A yellow polymer sheath, as in the Eco-Flex Gas Super hose, or a yellow marking tape element indicates that the hose is intended specifically for gas supply.
    • This color is easy to notice, it is associated with a warning of danger.
  2. Gray or transparent with a yellow stripe.
    • Typical for corrugated stainless steel hoses manufactured according to the EN 14800 standard, for example, Eco‑Flex Gas Euro EN14800 gas hose.
    • A gray or transparent PVC sheath provides additional protection for the metal structure, and a yellow stripe indicates the gas designation.
  3. Metal (uncoated).
    • Found in stainless steel hoses, such as Eco‑Flex Gas Standard hose.
    • Such hoses are usually additionally marked with a yellow label or tag with information about the designation.
  4. Black with a yellow stripe.
    • Often used in rubber gas hoses.
    • The black color provides resistance to ultraviolet rays, and the yellow stripe or marking indicates that the product is suitable for gas systems.

For other gases, such as propane, butane, oxygen, acetylene, argon, carbon dioxide, hoses of other colors can be used.

What is the difference between the colors of water and gas hoses

If for gas supply mainly yellow hoses or with a yellow stripe are used, then for water flexible hoses – blue (cold water) or less often red (hot water) color.

Using a hose for other purposes can be dangerous: gas hoses have a special design and resistance to a gas environment, while water hoses do not. In addition, hoses for different purposes have different technical characteristics and application features, so the interchangeability of such hoses is not allowed.

Conclusion

Color marking of gas hoses is an important element of the safety system. It helps to quickly and accurately determine the purpose of the hose, which is critical for avoiding accidents and ensuring safe operation of gas equipment. Yellow color is a universal signal that the product is intended for gas.

Always follow the manufacturers’ recommendations and pay attention to the marking to avoid danger. The right choice of color is not only aesthetics, but also an additional level of protection for your gas system.
